A NEW MILKING MACHINE.
-..''.■ THE ZEALANDIA PATENT. The latest .milking machine to make its bow to the, public is the Zealandia Milker, invented: ,ahd perfected after, years of thought,-' by Mr.\ Norman Daysh,' a" dairy .farmer, of Carterton, Wairarapa. Mr. ; Daysh ..very 'modestly states-that his machine is not the only , good machine on the -market, but he claims",-that .-it- is as good as tho; best of.tho .others, ;and .cheaper than any. "It's • outstanding feature,"'says Mr. Daysh, ■ "is reliability and its extremely moderate'price,', which will permit it to be- purchased from SO to SO' per cent. _cheapeij,.than any other machine on the market." . .... A Dominion , representative, visited Cjyjfertion the ;ot,her- : day and inspecjaxl, the outfit of Zealandia machines .work-' ing on Mr. \V. Zabell ! s farm.' It was a iour-cbw-plant,- and throughout -the milking _ the machines" worked with 'satisfaction:. ', : ■'"';' ' '.The 'groat feature 'of tho Zealandia • is. the simplicity of its pulsator, which ■is merely, a double-holed brass tube ■with a leather plunger like'.that on-a a bicycle pump, and worked from, a horizontal, shaft running overhead through the cow bail. ■'. A.rod which traverses tho'shaft, pushes the pulsatof one -way, and .then a' reciprocating action is produced by the Vacuum. ■ The pulsators .aro a fixture'in each double bail, -and'automatically stop working .when, that particular' bail is done with. It 'is ■ claimed that this is,, a . featuro which no other machine possesses, and which reduces power and wear and tear .to ah enormous extent. The action'of the milking machine is interesting. Tho cups which fit/on', the teats, are also fitted inside.' with thin indiarubber bands called inflations. These are next th'o; teats, upon which- pressure., is applied by the rush of air'm the space between inflations and cups. On the inward stroke of the pulsator the air w drawn out, thus producing a vacuum. The rubbers then leave the teats. This is. followed, by an outward pulsator stroke' which .forces the air down -the back of. the inflations ana squeezes :tho teats- just- like the human hands. By a"" simple, but clever mechanical contrivance, Mr. Daysh . can .alter the length, of the pulsator stroke in accordance with-the milk ■-. '!" ' , Tho, Zealandia. can. bo fitted; as', a plant for one cow, two cows, or-on "tho pipe system,-which doliversi-.thc milk straight from the'cow's teats into the . milk cans through strong glass pipes. Mr. Daysh' has . now : .'perfected an arrangement, by. which the . pulsator can' 'bo; attached to'ithe lid of a bucket. . ' .Another point in favour of tho - Zealandia; is' the thorough manner in which the vacuum tank can be'cleaned. " The foregoing are somb of tho fea- ; tures of which is undoubtedly a very fine and effective machine. It is now being worked by Mr. "\V. Zabell on thirty; or forty cows, and is giving him every satisfaction.
