GARRISON SIGNALLERS.
ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT./.. The annual smoke concert of the Wellington Garrison Signallers' Club was held at Noad's Rooms, Cuba Street, last evening. Lieutenant Hulbert, president of the club, was in the_ chair, and there were also present: LieutenanWMonel A. Bauchop, C.M.G. (Officer Commanding the District), Captain IR. 0. Chesney ' (District Adjutant), Captain Gibbs, Lieutenants Brown, Chappie, Keydon (Engineers), and Lieutenant Finlayson (Field Ambulance Corps). There was a very good' attendance of the members of the club, and the function was a most' successful and enjoyable one, the toast speeches being in the happiest vein, and the musical items and recitations of a most entertaining kind. The toast of "The Territorials" was proposed by Captain J. T. Hall,..who coupled with, the toast the names of Lieutenant-Colonel Bauchop , and Captain Chesney, of District Headquarters, and, in the course of his remarks testified to the high appreciation with which these officers were regarded' by the various units under their command. Lieutenant-Colonel Bauchop responded, and, in the course of . his remarks, referred to higher ideals of military service, urging those' present to cultivate the nobler conceptions 'of national- defence. Other toasts were: "Our Visitors" (proposed by the chairman, arid responded to by Captain Gibbs and Lieutenant Brown); "The Signallers' Club (proposed by Captain Chesney, and responded to by Lieutenant Chappie) ; "The Ladies," "The Secretary of the Social Committee" (Staff SergeantMajor Browning), and "The Press." During the evening, Lieutenant-Colonel Bauchop presented the Morse and Semaphore Signalling Challenge Cups to the winners (Post and Telegraph Rifles).
