THE PALMEBSTON MEETING: (By TelesrwlL-Siecinl OarresDonaenti Palmerston, May 5. There was again beautiful, weather tat the second day's coursing at the meeting of the Palmerston North Coursing Club to-day, the attendance also beilig very good. As on the previous day, Mr. A. JL Eogers (secretary) had all the arrange ments in perfect order, and he was materially assisted by members of .tie committee, conspicuous among them being Mossrs. H. Webb (slipper),'W. H. Overton (hare steward), and Messrs. H. Jones and B. W. Curtis (field stewards), -Mr. \W Dowling again officiated as , judge.. The sport was good all through,. the hares running very strongly, and, in nearly every case, beating the dogs to cover, the percentage of HHs being very small. This left .tho dub with plenty of hares to spare, and a supplementary stakes was added to to-day's programme. : In the final for the ■ Manawatu Open States, beUcen Gold Quartz and Field Day, the first course was undecided. la the second attempt Gold Quartz led to the hare by several lengths, got in Qμ first and. second turns, and won by seven.. to three. • ■■■■.'■ ; • ■ In the fourth round- of the Wairaa Stakes Cardiff gradually) , drew away from Ituberoid, and secured two turns. Ruberoid was driving wildly,! and only scored juet before the haro gottpast the barrier, Cardiff securing the cSttrse by 4 to 3. Gunsmith had apparently recovered from his gruelling course of the previous day, and easily disposed of Silk Blouse by 3 to 1. In the semi-final of the Maiiwn Stakes Moutoa beat Gunsmith, after the most severe course of the meeting. Three full lengths of the ground were coursed, the hare beating both dogs every time. Moutoa put in a great deal of work, but "puss" proved too strong, and, at the finish, reached the escapes twenty lengths ahead. Moutoa, however, com--plotely outclassed Gunsmith, winning tho course by the great margin of 53 to 2. Cardiff ran a bye. As both dogs had had' very severe courses, the owners agreed to divide the stake instead of running off the final.
The extra event—the Supplementary some excellent sport In' the first round Benders Bow and Paddy tke Pointer were slipped to'a very fast hare. Benders Bow had the advantage in the run to the hare, secured two turns straight off, and put up ten to his opponent's five. Thie result was unexpected after the performance put up by Paddy on the previous day. From a good slip Hazel led Eobert E'mmett to the hare by three lengths. She stumbled on the third turn, and allowed Eobert to score,' but, getting possession, drove the hare to cover, and won by 7 to 3. In the PowelkaSunny Days course, the latter upheld the reputation of her sire, leading Powelia, and won by ito nil. In the second round of the Supplementary nothing very noteworthy happened, but in the eemi-final: there was a good course between Bendera Bow and Deerfoot. The first-named showed the way to the hare, and got rathe first turn, and, not allowing his opponent to score, won by 5 to nil. Sunny Days ran a bye.
