JUDGMENT.SUMMONS SYSTEM.

ONE 03? ITS FALLACIES; EEMAEKS BY MR. HASELDEN, SM. Some interesting remarks bearing on judgment summonses were made yesterday by Sir. W. E. Haselden, S.M. During the healing of a judgment summons case his Worship 6aid: "I was asked the other day if I did not pity the unhappy creditor who conld not get his money, and who. could not meet bis engagements because his debtors would not pay him, and I say I do pityMm, and have often been in somewhat the same position myself. If, by making an order against the debtor' the .money would be forthcoming I would often mala the order, bat putting a married - debtor into prison and throwing his .wife and children on to charity in order' to save them from starvation would not help tht creditor. That is. the fallacy of the judg. ment summons system. The magistrate only refuses to make an order when the effect would be to deprive the debtor of the means of livelihood for himself and family."
