It had dragged along until 191)7, and, when tho speaker became chairman of the By-laws Committee in 1908; the superintendent of the fire brigade suggested the alteration, of certain street names. It was then that the'revision of the streets were taken in hand. There need- be no postponement of the consideration of tho whole, report with these amendments. Practiculfy no objection had been raised, and citizens had been notified that all objections were to be in by a certain time. There were two letters—one from Mr. W. H. Madeley and others, in regard to Sussex Square, and the other from Air. J. H. Kose, in regard to Orangi Koad—which would have to bo considered by the committee. There was also a fresh proposal in regard to the naming of Hollow Boad. The idea was that the name of Wordsworth Street should be retained as far as Holloway Koad, and that Holloway Koad should be called Afo Street.

Councillor Fletcher moved that tho whole' matter, be allowed to stand over for. a. month. Ther.e.,-. were a number of" ile.w'Txxjomiriendatiiins.T and councillors ■had not had time to consider these proposed alterations. . Councillor Jlorrah 6aid that he had been ■ bombarded with objections,: and he wanted an opportunity ■to discuss the matter. ... '~.'.

Councillor Smith expressed the opinion that the committee had done a great deal of useless work. The.people did not appear to be much concerned about these names, but so many names had been brought up that citizens would he at a loss to know where they lived! They would be going to wrong streets! The report was referred back to the By-laws Committee.
