THE NAVY LEAGUE.

Tho local executivo of the Navy League held-its monthly meeting at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, Captain Edwin, 8.N., in the chair. Other members present were Colonel A. Hume, Messrs. J. W Joynt, R. Darroch, J. 11. Richmond, Captains G. T. Hall and A. V. Jones, and Mr. C. W. Palmer. - A cablegram from the London headquarters was received, stating that Lord Islington, the new Governor, is, like Lord Plunket, an ardent supporter of the league. . ■ Arrangements with regard to the league's annual public demonstration at the Town'.Hall in June next were reported as being well under way. Messrs. i\ J. Oakes and D. Kenny have.promised to again give their services, and the Headmasters' Association has agreed to cooperate with the league in regard to the massed school chorus. The date is to be arranged so as to render possible the presence of the new . Governor at the Junction. The committee , approved the action of tho lion, secretary m connection with the loan of maps, flags, pictures, and trophies for the use of the Timaru branch in connection with the Timaru Industrial Exhibition. ■ • ■ \ It was decided to communicate with the other main branches of the league in New Zealand. (in co-operation ' with the Canterbury branch), -with a view to holding a conference of league representatives throughout the Dominion. Tho secretary was authorised to obtain from Mr. flardie Shaw a further set of lantern slides. ' A design (donated) for the cover of the annual report of tho local branch was submitted by Mr. A. G. Anderson and adopted. , A further supply of one gross of ine Riddle of the Sands" was authorised. Correspondence from London from a large number-'of branches was submitted, and the lion., secretary's replies, thereto were approved. Accounts totalling Aib 10s. sd. wore passed for payment, including a' half-yearly remittance- to London of .£22, to cover the cost of Ine Navy," supplied monthly to adult subAmong the correspondence were proposals from Levin and Picton that Jlr.
