SIRDAR, UNDERGOES OPERATION. London, May 4. Lioutennnt-General Sir Francis Reginald Wingate, Sirdar of the Egyptian Army and Governor-Goneral of the Sudan, has successfully undergone ft serious operation. [Lieutenant-General Sir F. R. Wingate is aged 48. He saw service with the several Sudan and Nile expeditions, and was Chief Intelligence Officer to Lord, Kitchener's staff, his knowledge of Arabic and of desert customs being invaluable to tba army in its advance. He fought the remnant of (he Khalifa's followers, the Khalifa himself being killed, and succeeded Kitchener as Sirdar and Governor-General of Sudan, He has boen on special missions in Abyesinia and Somaliland.]

The Australian High Commissioner, Sir George Reid, has arranged that Professor AVyndhntn Dunstan (a member of tho Advisory Committee on Tropical Agriculture, Colonial Office) shall represent the Commonwealth at tho Congress on Tropical Agronomy, to ,be held shortly at Brussels.
