ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Orchestral Society was- held in the Engineers' Institute Kooms last evening, Mr. ■J. W. Joynt presiding over a gathering of about'2o members. The annual report, covering a period from April 14, 1904, to April 30, 1310, remarked on tho past , career of the society, which was only' resusoiated last yeaT after several seasons' slumber. Thanks were expressed for the services of Mr. C. Hill, and sympathy was expressed with Mr. Hill in his late illness. The balanco-sheet, covering the period April 14, 1904, to April 30. last, showed a credit of JBII 3s. 5d., and tho excess of assets over liabilities at present was stated as .£143. Tho report expressed the hope that the society would resume with vigour the work for which it was formed. .

In proposing the adoption of the report, the chairman expressed sorrow at the fact that owing to his projected departure for England he would be unable to accept any office, but he would look forward to hearing of the success of the society. The society had been resuscitated last year, but operations had to be suspended owingUo the illness of Mr. Hill. The general desire at present was, he felt assured-, thnt operations should l)e resumed, and personally he was very glad to sec it. The adoption of the report was agreed ■ to. The following officers were elected;— President, Dr. Kington Fyffo; rice-presi-dents, Bishop Wallace, Archdeacon Redwood, his Worship the Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford), Dr. Young, Messrs. 'J. H. 0. Schwartz, W. P. Parsons, P. Gradv, sen. ( Robert Parker, J. G. W, Aitken, Matighan Barnett, John Prouse, and "William Gill; conductor, Mr. Herbert Bloy; hon. secretary, Mr. W. J. Prouse; lion, treasurer, Mr, H. H. Tombs; hon. librarian, Mr. W. D. Murdoch; committee, Messrs. J. H. 0. Schwartz, Charles Hill, L. Cohen, A. J. Grabham, H. 0. M'Farlane; hon. auditor, Mr. W. Morton. It was decided to commence practice on' Thursday next. . ;
