FARMERS' UNION MEETING.
; MAKTJKI BEAKCH. The annual meeting of , the Makuri branch of . the Farmers' Union was held in the Public Hail on.April 28, Mr. W. E. C. Tylee being 1 in the chair. There was a fair muster of members. The secretary reported that 28 out of 29 members had paid their subscriptions, and that only four -farmers in the district were not members, of the union. * The balance-sheet showed a good ; solid balance. A letter was read from Mr. Whitta,. ; of, Coonoor, suggesting that the branch should get a wool expert to instruct farmers .how to get lip their wool so as to sell to the best advantage. Tho secretary was instructed to write to Mr. Wood,, who has a class in Pahiatua. A letter was read from Mr. J. G. Wilson, asking for an opinion on the following amendment to,a. motion passed last, year at the 'conference at Eketahuna'"That ■the present system of land taxation', based oh the so-called unimproved value, should bei! alrolished, and all taxation of lands should be based on the capital value." Members considered that the' unimproved value was the fairest means of taxation, provided that full, value was allowed for improvements. ".'following''officer* were elected:— Chairman, Mr. W. E. C.
