FARMERS' UNION MEETING.

; MAKTJKI BEAKCH. The annual meeting of , the Makuri branch of . the Farmers' Union was held in the Public Hail on.April 28, Mr. W. E. C. Tylee being 1 in the chair. There was a fair muster of members. The secretary reported that 28 out of 29 members had paid their subscriptions, and that only four -farmers in the district were not members, of the union. * The balance-sheet showed a good ; solid balance. A letter was read from Mr. Whitta,. ; of, Coonoor, suggesting that the branch should get a wool expert to instruct farmers .how to get lip their wool so as to sell to the best advantage. Tho secretary was instructed to write to Mr. Wood,, who has a class in Pahiatua. A letter was read from Mr. J. G. Wilson, asking for an opinion on the following amendment to,a. motion passed last, year at the 'conference at Eketahuna'"That ■the present system of land taxation', based oh the so-called unimproved value, should bei! alrolished, and all taxation of lands should be based on the capital value."
