GISBORNE SHEEP TROUBLE.
HEAVY' MORTALITY KEPOKTED. The East Coast sheep-farmers in the neighbourhood- of Ponawa,' up' the coast from Gisborne, are still having trouble, with their stock. The , "Poverty Bay Herald" states that "the- disease among sheep, which has been termed nasal hot, is stiir causing much concern to settlers .along the coast, and there has been a leavy mortality in recent weeks. No effective cure has yet been found, and 6ettlers cannot understand why the disease, if'it is nasal hot, should be so'prevalent along the coast line any moro than ;inland.' It is" hoped that the Govern-' ment will give close attention to the' matter, to'ascertain if some remedy for the trouble can be found.'' It is most unusual for niy considerable mortality to occur with nasal bot in' New Zealand. As 'stated in The Dominion recently, 6heep have been found to be infected this season with both nasal bot and facial' nzcf'ma, ' and 'one wonders whether this may not be the case with this particular outbreak/ Otherwise, it is difficult to account for the heavy mortality reported, unless tho sheep are infested' with the bot maggots to nn extent altogether unprecedented in the Dominion. ■
