NEW TRAMWAY.
FROM EVANS BAY TO MIRAMAB FLAT. ' An agreement has been completed betweon the Miramar Borough Council and tho Wellington' Gas Company for the construction of a tramway line from (lie head nf Miramar Wharf in 'Evans Bay through the cutting (at present being widened by tho Harhour Board) to a point eight chains away in Miramar Avenue, connecting with the tramway line at tho' junction. The primary use of this line will be to enable the Wellington Gas Company to convey goods or coal from the wharf ,to its property, which abuts on to Miramar Avenue; and that being tlio case,' the company has. agreed to pay the sum of £600 towards tho construction of the line (calculated to cost between VE7SO and JE800), on the condition that the council does not impose a charge of more than one penny per ton on goods, carried over the line. The company is also to provide its own trucks, and pay the cost of haulage. Further than that, the Gas Company will have no control over the line or any advantage over the common right of the people to uso the line. Tho new line will, of course, be tho same, gauge (4ft.) as the borough tramways, in order thatfreight trucks may bo hauled over the rails to any part of the district, when ill the future it is deemed-expedient to pi ovule (rucks for such a service.
Tho Borough Council, on its part, is pledged to lay Hie lino down on receiving notice to do so from tho company, 'this will, no doubt, be after the present extensive earthworks in the cutting and ihs immediate vicinity are completed. As has been previously announced, tin policy of tho Wellington Gos Company is to gradually transfer (or establish) their gas-making plant at Miraniar .from Courtonay Place.
