MAORI GIRLS' SCHOOL.

..'., DEDICATION OF NEW WING. ' Recently a spacious and modern wing was added to the Queen Victoria School for Maori Girls, at Auckland, and''-on Tuesday last the-Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Nehgan) dedicated the new wing in the presence of a large number of tho public;. The service, which was conducted by. Dr. Neiigan, assisted by CanonMac Murray, was very impressive, and at the conclusion the hishop . gave an interesting address, in the cousre of which he the school had had its ups and downs like all institutions, but it had prospered greatly, and the enlargement had become an absolute necessity. The school was connected with the St. Stephens. Trust Board, who contributed a lL? art ot theit funds to its support. There was also a certain funded property, the income from which also went towards the support of the institution.. But one of the chief sources from which the school derived its income was the Queen Victoria- Association for the Protection of Maori Women and 'Girls Ihls association had done a very great work for the Maori women, and he believed, that the "After Care" branch would be found to be of immense value The association had instituted scholarships of £20 a year, which was the cost of tho education of a girl for a year This association had not only done excellent work .in New Zealand, but it had been extended to the Old Country, 'and there was now a branch at work in Dublin, at least one branch in London, and a girl ■ was supported every year'from St. Stephen's Parish, Paddingtoh. In addition to-this, the Government kept'a certain number of girls at the school, and they. were anxious that tho number should be increased. •# would thus be seen that the support of the school was to a large extent a matter of voluntary contribution. Dr..Neiigan.then went on to give some examples of the pood work tho girls who had. left the school were doing among their own neople. In conclusion he mentioned that when he and Mrs. Neiigan were in England some time ago the Princess of W a ] es nas asfe( j j, ow was the Victoria School for Maori Girls going on. * .
