THE CASE OF H. S. COBURN.
HIS RELEASE OEDERED.
The case of H. S. Coburn, manager of Truth," who was recently sentenced to four months' imprisonment—two of which had expired under a legal rule when sentence was passed—has been considered by the Government, •! ■i . Mr. Justice Chapman was consulted by the Minister for.Justice, and, in accordance with, tho recommendation' of his Honour, Coburn was medically: examined. The result was that it had been ascertained that further imprisonment was .calculated. to ' endanger Coburn's health to a very: serious extent. It has, therefore, been decided by the-Government, .with, the concurrence of Mr. Justice the unexpired -portion of his sentence, on medical grounds, and he was released yesterday. .. Tho sentence passed upon .him, .says Dr. Findlay, sufficiently asserted 'tho law, and made it clearly, publicly known that,' for such-an offence, even a man' of good character, who derived no benehi from the offence, might be imprisoned. : '
