HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING
In accordance with its recent decision to hold its ordinary meetings in the evening, tho Wellington Harbour Board met at 7.30 last night. The members present were: Sir. It. Fletcher (chairman), Dr. Newman, Messrs. 0. W. Jones, C. E. Daniell, J. G. Harkness, and M. Cohen. FINANCE. The; following credit balances at the bank wero reported:—Current account, £26.249 10s. lOd.; imprest account, £948 I7s. 3d.; iixed deposit, £71,100. Payments wero authorised as follow: —interest, accounts, arid wages, £11,096 ss. 9d.; progress payments.'oll contracts, £6698 - 2s. lOd. ;■ salaries for April, £741 14s. Id.; -total, £18,536 2s. Bd. TENDERS, The chairman reported: That the tender of the C. and A. Odlin Timber and Hardware Compauy, Ltd., for tho supply of 303 tons of hoop steel, and six tons of studs, for tho sum of £3,061 4s. 3d., with Messrs. 0. S. Watkins and E. It. Dyiuock as sureties had ljeen accepted; that the' following tenders for annual supplies bad been, accepted: —Coal, A, 8,, and C Groups, New Zealand State Coal-Mines; coal, D Group, Messrs. Andrews and Lissington; removal of rubbish, Mr. P. M'Ardle. COMPENSATION CLAIMS. , The chairman also reported that claims had been received from Messrs. S. Morrell and O. N. Newman, and another for compensation for lands at Miramar taken by tho board under the Public, Works Act. / . . • Tho board authorised tho affixing of its seal to forms of refusal to admit; these claims. , .THE FERRIES. ' The chairman, in reporting the result of- the recent Supreme Court case betweon tho board and the Harbour Ferries Company, said that it was a verysatisfactory termination to a matter that had been beforo the board for some time. ' Mr. Jopes asked whether the berthage fees concerned in the case could bo levied retrospectively. The secretary stated that an arrangement had been come to whereby the back fees would be paid by the company, though not on the full scale. , "AN APPEAL.', ■ \ The, board in committee resolved to appeal against the- judgment' of the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court in tho matter of trucking casks of cement. ; MISCELLANEOUS. 5 The board resolved, on the recommendation of the Wharves and Accounts Committee, to'grant a-foreshore license to Mr. W. J. Williams for. boat-skids at Karaka Bay, subject to approval of plans by Governor-in-Council; to affix seal to foreshore license No. 90, for boatshed and skids at Evans Bay for Mr. N. Gibbs; to affix seal tu t.ranstei of foreshdre license No. 76 from G. R. Hoggard to' W. G. Youngj to., affixseal to consent to sub-leases* of Lots 11 and 13, Grainger Street Block, from Messrs. ,S. Luke aud Company, Ltd., to the Massey-Harris Company, Ltd., and Wellington Fruit aud I'roduce Exchange, .Ltd., respectively; to s affix, "seal ,to. deed of covenant' granting oneyear's extension of time for buildiny 011 Cable Street section (Lease No. 7583) ; to-authorise tho'board's engineer to transfer woolpress from P storo to new J shed, and to call for tenders foi; j another press for the r new;"J shed; to" adopt the engineer's-report; re condition of-Queen's Wharf,,and authoriso him tb; carry out' the necessary repairs by day'labjujjj to'adopt the. Engineer's report , recommending .the, removal of the oyster bed at Balena Bay, lately leased by Mr. J. Milesi; to set up a special, committee to revise aiid consolidate the by-laws and regulations of. the board, excepting those relating to the conduct of business at meetings of the'board.
