NEW STATION WANTED.
harbour board interested,
The Wellington Harbour Board' received last evening a letter from the City Council asking for co-operation in mating -■ representations to the Government on the need for a new railway station for Wellington. Mr. Jones said the Harbour Board had nothing to do with the railway station, and should not go out of its way. to deal with it. He moved: "That the board take no action."
Mr. J. 0. Harkn«s seconded the motion pro forma. Mr. M. Cohen opposed tho motion, and contended that the board was largely interested, as it would need to co-operate with.- the Ifailway Department in regard to the passenger connection between tho two islands.. Mr. Harkness took the same view, and emphasised the inadequacy of tho present stations.
Tho motion was also opposed by Messrs. C. E. Daniell and J. W. M'Ewan, tlio latter remarking that a now railway station was move necessary than tho dock; The motion was lost, only the mover voting for it. The board tlion resolved to support the action of the City Council.
