Jones said he wished to move that one of the subjects oil the order paper for committee be. taken in open board. The chairman (Mr. K. Metcher) said this could not be done,' ae the board had resolved to take the matter in committee. Mr.. Jones them said he wished to protest. , ■ . ' The chairman replied that he could not allow him to do so. Mr. Jones: If I am going to be gagged— The chairman: I will ask you to withdraw that word. I will ask you to 'resume your seat. ' • Mr. Jones continued standing,, and tried to proceed with his remarks. ■ The chairman: I ask the members of the . board to ' support me. ■ Will, you withdraw? Mr. Jones: Yes, I withdraw. You might allow me to explain my reasons. The chairman: No; X oannot. : Mr. l Jones: It oould be taken in open board by .unanimous consent of the members; '.' '.The minute book was produced, at the . request of the chairman, who read a resolution passed on March 23, on the motion of Air. Harkmess, and directing that copies of all communications relating to loans proposed to be raised: on the London market during the year 19j)9 .should be submitted to the board in committee., at its ordinary meeting in April. The board .then went into committee. When the board resumed, the ohairman reported as. follows:— , - That the board in committee recommends the board at its next meet- ■ ing to go into the correspondence relative to the , issue of a prospectus for raising a' loan of £500,000 on the Lon-. don market during the year 1909. That the. board in ~ committee recommends the. board to authorise tho chairman to . takej such steps as . he . may deem necessary to inquire into all the. circumstances surrounding the l cables in connection with loan matters referred to in the ■ correspondence .. '. : laid on the table. . The above . recommendations were adopted without discussion.
