A NEW STAR.

Mr.: W. E. ■ Raymond, the- officer in charge of thq Sydney Observatory, received • letter recently with referenco to "a "star." seen close to the . sun early in the month. As >no previous, reports have come to hand relating to .the object,', whatever it might hove been, Mr. Raymond desires anyone who may have seen the phenomenon to communicate their experiences to. him at the Sydney, Observatory.' Mr. Raymond's correspondent does not state that the'sta!r was in motion. Had lie said so' much light would have been thrown on the subject, and it could then have been asserted without much doubt that the' 60-called "star" was a meteor large enough to bo seen in brilliant sunlight. . The letter, which is dated North Dorrigo, Aprill3, is.as follows:—"Our local police officer here told me to-day he'saw a Mr. Walker, forest ranger here, who saw the other day a bright star near the sun. Mr. Walker's attention w ; as called to it by another person, who first saw it. It must have been near tho sun, as Mr. Walker, says that tho sua dazzled him when he looked, at the star. There may or may not be anything in this, but as a rule professional observers, I think, do not examine the sky much in bright sunlight, and I tHougnt I might las well drop you a line. (Signed) A. Dawson." '
