EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held yesterday, there being present: The chairman (Mr. Robert. Lee), and Messrs. J. Kebbell, William Allan, A. W.' The total authorisations (including sites, etc., anth-orised-in ad'lH-ion to those approved on March 31, 1910, amounted to .£2276'2s Bd. An analysis of - the amounts disclosed ' the fact that the Buildings Account was in debit to the extent, of .£2371 17s. 4d; "the General Account. .£645 10s. sd; and the Secondary Account, .£256 11s. 4d. Credit balances were shown in respect of the Technical Account (.£B3 3s. Id), Manual and Technical Account (J31158 19s. 5i1.), Teachers' Salaries Account -(.£390 3s. 4d.), and Deposits (■£' 145.) . i ..The chairman remarked that the genoral aspect of the board's finances showed a considerable improvement. ■■' SCHOOL GRANTS. The Education Department'..wrote to the effect that school grants had been allowed as follow:—Brooklyn, increase to .£975 for two rooms; Hnkahni, purchase and enlargements to residence, .£300: Kaiparoro, residence, .£420; Mangamnire, residence, ~£420.: : ■' ' .:. . Generally speaking, members expressed themselves as being.very well satisfied with the grants. The board's clerk of works had given it as his opinion ■ that the grant could, with, care, meet- the expenditure required.' PETONE HIGH SCHOOL It waei agreed, on tho motion' of th« chairman, to inform the Potone Committee, that as the establishment of a liigli school proper at Petone would 'involve the disestablishment of the district hitjli school at the Hutt, the board was not prepared to, acquiesce jih the 'losireif vhti committee. Such a course was contrary 1 to tho. policy'laid down' by' the' board and the Education. Department. -

Finance Committee , authorisations for worksat Parkvale, ,'Putava, Pongarou, Manakau, ' Hukanui, Training' College and retone, were agreed to. ■ ; Water tanks wero authorised to be supplied from, stock to the schools at iJallance, Mangamaire, and Jiidgeford - , Applications for works at Ekotahuna and Belvedere were declined. Tho Clerk of Works/was requested to report on applications for works at Akatarawa, Taueru, Mauriceville West, Terrace, and Khanda'llah. ' '■ The matter of establishing a miniature rifle rangei at Fernridge School ivas referred to the inspectors for a report on the question of site. ' It was decided that framed historical pictures bo offered to the schools, in sets of twelve, beginning at the largest schools, at S.I 10s. per set. ■ ■ The inspectors were-asked \to' report' upon the accommodation at.Hongokokako and Paraparaumu . after ''visiting • the schools. ■■■■:'■■ '•■•:.■■■ '.■.'
