WAIRARAPA P. & A. SOCIETY.

ANNUAL REPORT. . . The annual report of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and-A. Society,, to be submitted to the annual meeting on Thursday next, at Carterton, ' states that the 1909 show was a pronounced success, like its predecessor, and though the balance-sheet shows that- a little less was received for entry fees this year, the other accounts are all in excess of those of last year. The overdraft has increased by £120. This is mainly attributable to the fact that permanent improvements havo cost £101, while £40 more has been spent on prize money, and £26 on champion prizes than received. Expenditure has been carefully managed, and a saving in general show expenses of £40 been effected. The Ground Committee has paid special attention l to tho maintenance of grounds and buildiugs in good order, and has carried out only those improvements which have been found absolutely necessary. •' . •. '_■ The butter-fat competition was again, a great success, aud "a .general interest was. taken in the contest by- dairyfarmers. Mr. C. Morgan won tho cup for the ypaiy his cow scoring, total points 79.38, Thero were 29 entries. Thanks are due to Mr. Booth for again generously providing the grazing.

During the past year the committee has given serious consideration to the question of holding a ram fair, but decided that it would' be better to consider the advisability of instituting a stock salo or fair, for the day after the annual show in. October, in the interests of both exhibitors and Wairarapa farmers.. Tho entries to be for all classes, although it is anticipated that advantage will be taken of the opportunity ..by dairyfarmers more particularly. The committee desires to thank all those who contributed towards the Society's Prize Fund, both in Wellington and Wairarapa, arid also to express its appreciation of the work carried out by the stewards and judges. , ■ <
