Mr. W. Beatson, who, while working on his farm at- Aorangi, sustained a fall from a loaded dray, causing a broken arm and other injury, is making a good recovery. A meeting ofs the Manawatu No-Li-cense League was held in the Presbyterian Church, at Bulls on Wednesday afternoon, when" the election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Rev. D. B. F. Carlisle; vice-president, Mr. J. Sanson ;■' secretary, Eev. 6. Frost; treasurer, Mr! J. Glover.; committee, Messrs. T. M'Kenzde and Carter, and the Rev. E. G. Evans.
The.Anglican fancy fair closed down last evening in consequence of the visit of the Rev. H. S. Woollcombe, who gave an address under the auspices of the local branch of the C.E.M.S. The Feilding Hockey Club has resolved to enter a senior team in the shield competition, which commences on May 11. The club will also enter two teams in the five-asidb tournament.on May 4 for the president's cup. It has also decided to play the Palmerston Hockey Club a match in fancy dress on the racecourse on Wednesday next, the net proceeds to be divided between the Beautifying Society and the Hockey Club.

About seventy guests'attended the opening "social". of the Literary and Debating Society in the Druids' Hall on Tuesday night. Mr. Gibb, 'the 'ocal Presbyterian missionary, presided. The following contributed songs:—Mis3es Lanovig, Silvester, Aaquith, M. and 0. Woodweiss, and Messrs. W Law, Gulland, Gunning, Fjyger and Gibb. Recitations anli readings were given by Miss Wickliffe, Messrs.' Gulland, and Gibb. Miss Phyllis Gunning played a pianoforte ■ selection. Refreshments were provided during the evening.. Fourteen new members were proposed.
