WHAT'S THIS?
REMARKABLE INCIDENT IN COTJRT. : (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Chrlstchurch, April 21. The administration, of justice in the' Christchurch Magistrate's Court this morning was, interrupted by a remarkable incident, the presiding magistrate (Mr. H. W. Bishop) being served with a subpoena while lie was dealing with civil actions.
The magistrate was hearing a case when a local land agent walked up to the clerk's desk and made some remark to him. He. was evidently told to wait a more opportune time for bringing new business before the Court; but a moment later he approached the Magistrate's Bench, end was about to say something when Mr. Bishop stoppedhim with the remark, "One case at a time."
When he had.dealt with the case before, him the magistrate turned to the land agent, who handed a blue paper to him, at the same time Bslring the magistrate to look after it for him. He then moved quickly to the exit from the courtroom, and wae going outside when the magistrate/asked;
"What's this? What does thia man mean by serving me with a • subpoena when I am on the Bench?" The agent merely replied, 'fThank you; your Worship," and i closed the door. '■•■.■
Mr. Bishop then turned to the bailiff and said:' "That man is evidently quite irresponsible. See that he is not < allowed inside the Court aeaia."
