MR. WILFORD AT ROSENEATH.

Mr. T. M. Wilford, continued his cam-paign-last night by addressing tho residents of Roseneath- at. the local schoolroom. Mr. H. Liardet presided... Mr. Wilford' said he thought that-. Roseneath .was.penarised,by the arrangement of the tramway sections. Residents should be able to go from the Oriental Bay terminus to Winder's corner for a penny. He differed with Mr. Crawford as to the' Oriental Bay works. To pull down the wall. and . return to the old position was impossible and ridiculous. Reverting to tramway questions, the candidate said he was in favour of a better arrangement of the loop lines, and thought there should be a passing place about Hay Street. He believed in beautifying the city, - but ho thought money spent v on footpaths was- better than tree-planting on' Mount Victoria. He was strongly opposed to any increase in the rates in the coming year. He did; not : believe in 'wood-blocking by means of short-dated debentures. Such debentures meant.a high rate of interest.' To raise the money locally, and sell them over the counter, would be to absorb a huge amount of money badly required for house-building and other necessary purposes. A boat harbour at Island Bay meant a £20,000 job at the least. Where were the boats to go— into Cook Strait? Mr. Crawford now declared he did not want to bring water, but power, over the Rimutakas from the Tauherinikau River. That made it worse, for he'had now to erect ! a power-house, and he had.still to bring hie power over the ' Rimutakas or through a tunnel. The -'electors, declared Mr. Wilford, shoald be given an opportunity of saying whether ' they wanted,a fire board.-.He was against selling a single inch, of: the city properties on the reclaimed'land. He was in, favour,.of, an .extension'of tho tram, way .from, the Kilbirnieitunnel into Ha,taitai.: -...They would.'also .have to .con-' sider' the- question-of a line up the hill from the Oriental Bay terminus. The meeting, closed, with .a vote ot thanks and confidence.-.
