Mr. MUenna, accompanied by Dr. Macnamara," received at the .Admiralty, a deputation from the Parliamentary Committee of the Trades Union Congress on tho question of competition of service bandsmen with civilian musicians.' Mr. MlCenna, after hearing the deputation's contentions, said the State did not require tho whole time eervices of marine bandsmen, and did not pay them for their whole time. They ouglit, therefore, to'be freo to supplement their pay in their spare tjme by taking outside engagements. If the; Admiralty accepted the deputasuggestions'they would either nave to rive up the the bonds getfier, or. engage them for work for which there was no occasion. It- was, however, laid down in the most definite terms that in no case ought engagements , to.bo made by: raarin* tondsmen at rates lower than those paid to civilians, and h* invited his hearers to bring, beforo hw notice any instance in which the rcgula> tions.had been broken. .
