BOY SCOUT NOTES.
(By "AlerUV i^ . After the usual meeting', last.: Wednesday.' evening, the Nowtown Boy Scouts we're entertained, with ;a magic-lantern display,- which—was—much-eniflyp.cl. On Saturday afteriooh they spent the time in scouting games on Mount Victoria. The boys are making splendid"" progress with their signalling under their instructor Mr. Brown, who is taking a great interest in them. • At their, lost meeting tho boys passed a hearty vote of thanks to the Rev. Mr. Sbirer. (chaplain of the troop) for his kind offer of a prize to the boy who gains . the most _ marks for "good turns" done .in a given time.
The Kilbirnio Scouts';'spent last Saturday afternoon in ' practising ambnshing and tracking. One scout, 'Powelka,. was given a. good start, and /was followed over hill and dale until near the- Heads Signal Station, when the fugitive ran right into ( an ambush, and was successfully 'captured., v> , .v'. ..'./■
On Saturday Brooklyn was visited by the Kelburne troop. .The scouts of that, district were met and, together, they indulged in some games, calculated to sharpen the 'scouting instinct, ihe Brooklyn representatives were not suc-cessful-in preventing/a junction of the divided Kelbarne force, but later, in a dispatch run, two of the former succeeded in getting through the enemy's lines, while both the Kelburnti boys were caught. A scout whistle, offered to , the Kelburne patrol leader, whose patrol marched best, was won by leader Wilson, of the "Stags." The marching was splendid, the boys keeping perfect step and time. Sergeant Willis was in chargo of tho Brooklyns.
.Nearly 280 of ' the Wellington Boy Scouts spent Monday evening at _ the King's Theatre, and thoroughly enjoyed the splendid programme of pictures shown. The .scouting pictures were received with ' great enthusiasm, and a portrait 'of Lieut.-General Sir S. S. Baden-Powell was accorded three cheers. The boys behaved well, and it lsnnped that this will not be last opportunity which will be offered to the boys j>l attending an entertainment. Best thanks are due to the management for their kindness in putting on special; films, and making siich liberal concessions.
Report comes from Upper Hutt and Knitoke of the formation of several patrols/ The surrounding Country offers excellent scope for good scouting, and the lads in this district should soon become expert. ■ .. .. . . •; .
Tβ Horo has fnrnished its quota to the ranks of tho scout movement. Mr. G: W. Kirk has under his able direction about 20 boys, who are making good progress.
Taitapuna musters a strong body of 70 scouts, under Chief Scout-master Simp : son-M'Lean. . , .
Fine work ha 3 been achieved by the Rev. Jas. Battray, , of Pongaroa. He has formed 'a .largo corps of mounted .hoy scouts, frith patrols at Waione, Kaitiina, Pukehinau. Rakauni, Waikereru, Ea'nge Eoad, Hakuri, and Waterfalls;
