PALMERSTON NEWS.
(Prom Oar Special Correspondent.) Palmerston North, April 21. The annual installation of the W.M., and investiture of officers of Lodgel Manawatu Kilwinning, took place at the Masonic Temple, Church ' Street, last evening. Bro. AV. H. • Collingwood was the W.M. elect, and was duly installed by' Bro. R. Fletcher, D.G.M., assisted by Bro. J. A. Nash; P.G.D.C. Addresses .to the Master, the' Wardens, and the brethren, were'-given by Bro. J. S. Webb/l'.M., Pahiatua, Bro. 3: A. I'awsou, P.M., Lodge Huia, and Bro. J. A. Nash, P.M. . The working tools in the several degrees were presented by P.M. Bro. AV. Rutherfurd, Bro. R: M. M'Knight, AV.M. of Manawatu United Lodge, and P. M. Bro S. Sbactar. Bro. J. ,K. Hornblow, of ifoxton, invested the following officers: —1.P.M., 8r0..A. N. Gibbons; D.M., Bro. A. E. Bennett; S.W., Bro. A. Tbrstonson; J.W., Bro. A. Clarke; Secretary, Bro. 0. S. Rush; Treasurer, Bro. W. Ruthorfurd; S.D., Bro. S. R. Fullbrook; 3 .1)., Bro. :. \V. Mouldey ; I.G.i Bro. E.. Runherstrum; Chaplain, Bra. L. Simmons; Organist, Bro. H. S. Porteous; Choir Master, Bro. H. K. Swallow; S;S., Bro. A. Hopwood; J.S, Bro. W. Mundy; Tyler, Bro. J. Whalley; D.C., Bro. J. A..Nash. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the brethren adjourned to the Municipal Hall, whore, a banquet was held and presided over by. the new Master, Bro. W. H. Collingwood. The usual Masonio toasts were honoured. . .
, The newly-formed Palmerston North Hockey Club played a game with the Technical School team yesterday, and succeeded in winning by fivo goals to two. The, new club appears to havq some flno players \ in its ifanks, and it promises to hold its own during the, reason. The match between Old Boys and the Post Office team resulted in a win for the latter by five goals to four. Judging from the. number of dubs in the field, and the enthusiasm being shown, hockey promises to be stronger than • ever in Palmerston this season. :
Entries for the Manawatu'Hortioultnral Society's Autumn show, which is to bo held on.April 28, are already coining in,',. and the ; esnibiliion promises to.be mo3t successful. The principal exhibits will, of course, be chrysanthemums. ■ .; . '
■ The Palmerston • Lodge of Drnids held , ' a very successful dance 'last evening, the attendance being the largest for tlio season so far.
The • Congregational Church held its anniversary, "social".' and tea last evening. The after meeting in : the church was presided over by the Rev. D. flird, M.A., ahd'Mr. J. A. Whitehead gave an organ recital, which was greatly appreciated. Songs were .rendered by Misses Cooper and Burgess, and Mr. W. Leet, the choir . also . eo'htribriting several itoras. Accompanimtnts to the vocal items : wore played by Misa Raw? lins: Mrs. D. , Priiiglo. was presented by the choir with a, nicely-bound copy, of the Church hymnal, as; a mark of esteem, this Jady having been a momber of the choir for many years, we. report.-submitted' showed that tho ohiirch was in a very sound financial position.
