"UTTER ItUBBISH."
Tho "Eltham Argus," describing a recent visit by local farmers to the MoTimahaki State experiment farm, says.~-" Utter rubbish/,' was the contemptuous designation applied by Mr. M'Connell to tho letters which have been appearing in the press regarding the present and future of the experiment farm. Mr. • M'Connell did not wish to say much about the ihatter himself, preferring to ,allow the visitors to form their own conclusions, but so far fronv Moumaliaki going back "he said it was a vcry'lire institution,, which would be proved; a}s timo went on. Some of the visitors .thoueht tho farm was not. quite so spick and span »s when a larger staff vas employed, but they all expressed themselves highly-pleased with the day's outing, and; were evidently impressed with the important nature of the .work which is being carried on.
The New Zealand Hemp Process Co. at Foxtpn put down a bore for artesian water for flax-washing" a few days ai;o. It has been stated thsitj artesian water is not suitable for washing fibre, as it discolours it. A "Maiiawatu -Herald", representative was shown by Mr. Richardson, the technical director ftf tha company, several liaiiks which had beeii taken direct from the stripper, ' boiled for four hours in water from this new bore, allowed to remain jn the ; water all night, and afterwards bleached.
