AERIAL TOURING

gROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT BY TWO BIPLANISTS. THEY COVER 220 MILES IN FIVE HOURS. TRAIN AND CAR OUT-PACED. By Telegraph—Pruts Association—OopyrlßUV (Rec. April 20, 9.55 p.m.) Paris, April 20. Remarkable cross-country aeroplaning has just been accomplished by M. Henry Farman and M. Paulhan, acting in conjunction. M. Farman (who is the inventor of a type of biplane) aeroplaned 50 miles across country from Etampes to Chevilly (near Orleans). Here M. Paulhan boarded the same machine and aeroplaned another 130 miles, reaching Arcis-sur-Anbe. Next morning M. Paulhan started again in the machine, and covered afurther 40 miles to Chalons, making the total distance of the combined crosscountry flights 220 miles. The covering of this distance occupied five hours, the average speed being thus 44 miks an hour. M. Paulhan outpaced a powerful motor-car and overtook a train. Sometimes he flew at a height of 1800 to 2000 feet. .
