ST. PETER'S CHURCH.
■ ■ . ANNUAL, REPORT. . ,'',...,;! /The annual .report of St. ' Peter's Church records a surplus of lis. 4d ; , after providing for ' all' liabilities. This is considered fairly • satisfactory, as the vestry has paid £96 17s. 9d; out of ordinary funds towards the repairs and painting of tho church. It is regretted that pew rents show a i alling-offi of £49 13s. 4d;, and if it had not been for the reduction of £123 Gs. on the stipends, as compared with last year, through having no, assistant, .curate,. the. year would have closed with a deficit. The '■ offertories show a slight increase of £15 2s. 7d., but there is still room, for Improvement' in this method of assisting church funds. The cost of lighting has been reduced from £49 4s. sd. to £34 16s. 119., a reduction of £14 ; 75. 6d. The repairs and painting cost £335 Bs. 9d. The special subscriptions and collections for this pose amounted to £188 lis., to which, the Ladies' Working Party added £50.' They havo -also provided the second £50- promised towards the Brooklyn stipend, so the ' vestry has no further liability in that direction. The vestry thanks the Ladies' Working Party for invaluable assistance on behalf of the parish, and also Miss Pearce and Colonel Pearce (of England), the vicar, and the choir, for donations for various parish purposes, and Mr. Harrison for continuing his valuable services in the belfry; and ,for his donation to the choir funds. During the vicar's eight raonths" absence on his trip to the Old Country, his place was very ably filled by the Rev. H. G. Black-, burnc, M.A., and to show their appreciation of his' work, the- parishioners subscribed a testimonial amounting to £84 2s. The Rev. D. H. Jenkins has been of great'assistance to both Mr. Blackburns and the vicar, in assisting and conducting various church services. To show its esteem and appreciation, the vestry voted him a sum of £10 from the church funds, and has received a donation of £5 to add to this. This year the vestry joined in the scheme of acoideut assurance for the clergy. Thanks are given Mr. Edward Anderson for. undertaking all work in connection with tho pew rents. Mr. J. G. Pascoe, who was elected a member of the vestry without his consent, resigned at the beginning of the church year. On looking into , the financial side of tho church for the last ton years, 'it. Iras' seen that the first' five years showed a total for.general offerings £3078, and pew rents £1953, making a total of £5031. For the second five years: General offerings, £3215; pew rents, £1830; total, £5045.. Thns the -offerings show an increase of '£137, and the pew rents a decrease of £123, while the.grand total shows an inoreas* of £14, for the last five years.
