HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
NEED FOR NEW CHILDREN'S WARD. ESTIMATES FOR THE YEAR. The usual fortnightly meeting of Hospital Trustees yesterday was attended by the Hon. C. M. Luke, M.L.C. (chairman), and Messrs. Hoore, Trevor, Kirk, London, and M'Ewan.The number of patients in the hospital on April 18 was reported to be as follows:—Jlalcs 100, females 84; in tho Victoria Hospital, 19 males and 18. females; and in the Scddon Hospital, 12 males and 5 females, a total of 238. The secretary submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure for the period from April-5 to April 18. It showed that tho receipts had totalled J32323, including a balance, of .£2035-and ■ rents ■ £119. Tho expenditure aggregated ,£l79b, leaving a credit balance of £525. Receipts from outpatients totalled £11 lis., and from in- , patients_ £156 Us. Bd. for the period. : Dr. Gibbes wrote with reference, to tho mothod of the appointment of honorary surgeons, but it was decided to take the matter in committee... The Houso Committee recommended :— (1) That a committee, comprising Messrs. Trevor, London, Dr. H. Hardwick, Smith, and the chairman (Mr. J. Aitken), confer with tho architects in reference to the lighting of the Infectious Diseases Hospital. , (2) That • consent he given to the. assignment of. a lease of land by Mrs. Duignan to the Westport Coal Company, Limited. (3) That tho house steward's recommendations re purchase of stock of.butter, courtyard fountain, piping around fountain, and lagging steam pipes be approved. (4) That the board amend the rules as follow: "When two or more medical men are in partnership only one.shall be. eligible for election on the honorary medical staff." The recommendations were adopted.. ....'. The general estimate's of receipts and expenditure' for tht- year- 1910-11 were given as follow:—' Receipts—Rents, £3200; Government subsidies, £450; maintenance,. in-patients £3400, out-patients £375; District Board, £17,178; contributions, £500; miscellaneous, £50; total, £25,153. Expenditure:—Bread and flour, £303; groceries, £1300; meat,' £1000; butter, milk, and eggs, £1700; fish and poultry, £335; vegetables. and fruit, £450; wines and spirits, £125; aerated waters, £50;. drugs, £950; surgical instruments, £50; water, £325;' fuel, £1280; light, £900; hardware and crockery, £400; cleaning aud chandlery, £120, furniture, £120; bedding, linen, drapery,- and clothing, £550; grounds, £100; insurance, £150; printing, ' advertising: ' arid stationery; £200; interest,'rents, etc., £775; additions, lavatory, destruotur chimneyi ;te., £1000; funerals, £50; legal.and. law ;cos'ts, £45; repairs,; £350; surveys and "plans, £25; wages, £4000;-salaries, £6500;. gas fittings, £100; cookery classes,' £20; Christinas goods, £50; repayment of'. lpan, £1500; Customs duty, £30; telephones, £50; old age. pensions, £20; miscellane-. ous, £250; total,. £25,153. ■
The supplementary .estimates' for the period 1910-11 were: Children's: Children's ward, £6800; sun room, covered ways, and .corridor, ' £500; earthwork, drainage, ;etc, £300; total, £7600. Eye ward,. £2800; earthwork, and drainage, £200; total, £3000'., .The cancer ward, £1900; earthwork and drainage, £100; total, £2000.' Victoria' Hospital,: verandah and balcony, £384. : The chairman said that he would again liko to emphasise the. need, for ii ■ children's hospital.. It was, to,his mind, the most urgent requirement in the city; He hoped that efforts'would be made to secure'the full sympathy of, the publio in the matter.. ■ " . The estimates were referred to the new board. .'■•., ' ' Accounts amounting" to £737.105. lOd. for the month of March were passed for payment. ' , ■;
