A TOWNSHIP WANTED.
• Sir,—A few lines from our little port will not come amiss just at present. Wβ have here a fine little port, through which a great amonht of procjuce must be shipped, as our river draias one of the most fertile districts in the' North Island.' Now,/irhat wo want is a. township at the Heads to do business with, the outside world. Our only way is to buy the land from the Natives and go ahead. But that is the point The Natives have leased to a -private company, and until this lease expires. nothing can be done by-private individuals. The Government have been approached on the matter, but, of course, the "Taihoa" policy keeps things back. Now,' it would be a great pity to see the place go into the hands ot a private cojnpany, as that would only deaden things again.- Now, if the Government could see its way clear to biiy this land and make a township of. it, it would at once.settle the question of a site, besidos being a very good investment. Ihanking you in anticipation, I am, etc., „ ■ ■ ■' i>.T.w. Marokopa, April 6.
