HIGHLAND RIFLES,

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of tho Wellington Highland Eiiles was held in .the Noncommissioned Officers'- Club.Room,. Garrison Hall, last evening, Captain M'Diarmid, officer commanding the corps, in the chair.' Major C. T.>. Mackintosh, of the Kiflc Battalion Stall', and formerly officer commanding -the company, was also present. There was a largo and enthusiastic attendance of the members, and the proceedings 'throughout were a pleasant indication of the good feeling and esprit do corps for which the company,' is noted. Corporal S. E. Shannon, secretary of the committee, read the annual report, a lengthy- document, of which the' main points were,,as follow:— The company again earned the maximum capitation grant for-three, officers' and 03 men, the full establishment for an' infantry unit. Tho average parade stato throughout the year was never less than 10.'; Reference; was. also made, -to? tho -'■en-, tliusiasm which marked ' tho ■• several church parades, appreciation of the services' of Chaplaiu-Major tho Ecv. W. Shirer and the Rev. Mr. Smith being placed on record. Pleasure was expressed at tho honour felt by the corps ■m the presentation to its late commanding officer (Major Mackintosh), of the 21 years' long-servico medal, and to the present captain of the 13 years' medal. In the'report of the Shooting Committee complaint was made that the average 1 attendance at tho week-end rifle matches was not up to expectations. To all recruits, and to the company generally, the hope was expressed that rifle shooting, as a sport, would bo seriously taken up. To donors of trophies — Chaplain-Major Shirer, and Messrs. J..-L. Turner, W. H. Tisdall, and officers—tho thanks of the comniitteo were expressed. Tho committee further expressed its indebtedness to the executive officers of the'eempany, and of the various sub-committees. Corporal Shannon (secretary),. Sergeant Dobson (shooting secretary), and Mr. J. L. Turner (hnndicapper) being especially selected for appreciation, and concluded with the announcement that service matches would be made n feature of next season. The balance-sheet, disclosed a credit of about £U. After discussion the report and balaucc-sheet were adopted.
