LACROSSE.
CAPITOL V. COLUMBIA. Capitol met and defeated Columbia at Dupna Street on Saturday by six/ goals to three. Early in tho game it seemed .as. though Columbia were going to prove easy victors, but after'they had notched one goal the Capitol ■'nien found their feot and made no mistake about assuming and maintaining-the lead. Play on both sides was fast and keen, the new recruits demonstrating that they had a-voiled themselves ■of the facilities for training. H; Borrodaie captained, the ■ Capitol team in tho place of. their for.mcr leader, A. Jantke, whilst Casey took command of the opposing side.
KELBURNE V. WELLINGTON. Last year's runners-up, Kelburne, were victorious over tho apparently superior Wellington team by eight goals to four. Webb faced off to Carver at centre, and, after travelling to and fro between the goals, Kelburno secured the ball and notched the first point. Wellington retaliated, and soon drew level. The.game continued fast and open, at half-time the scores being 5—3 in favour of Kelburne. On resuming, the runuors-up continued to press, and found tho net three- times in quick succession. Wellington reduced tho difference by one, but their efforts to get level were unavailing. A feature of, tho game was the accuracy of the passing and catching of the Kelburno "Homes."
NEXT SATURDAY'S • GAMES. Capitol will meet Kelburne, and Columbia will try conclusions with Wellington.. Both matches are to be played at Duppa" Street. It is expected that the first round of the competition will commence on the following , Saturday. •
