COLLEGE DEBATING SOCIETY.

Die annual general meeting, of tha Victoria College Debating Society was held last evening.- The chief business' was the discussion and adoption of the annual report for the.previous year. The. retiring, chairman, Mr. J. Mason, ■can-' 'gratulated the members on the successful work of last year, pointing out that the number of debaters had increased,, and. the enthusiasm which had char- - a'cterised previous years had in nowise diminished. He wished to congratulate Mr. G. Morice, 8.A.-, the winner;of the' Plunket Medal,-Mr.,J. M, Hogben,.th«, Union prize-winner, and Mr. J. Ogg, who,won.the new Speaker's prize._ Thecommittee donated a .prize' to Miss 'E. R. Fell, of the AVomen's Debating Society. The committee desired-to thank the gentlemen who assisted the society during tlie^year, thanks being .especially' due -to Professor J., Adamson,'. M.A;j' LL. 8., ■ the retiring president, for hia address, ."Some Hints oi Public Speaking" ; also to the gentlemen who' acted as judges for the Union prize cpmpeti-; tion. The thanks of the society were also due.to his Worship the Mayor, and, members of the City Council,, for the; free,use of the Concert Chamber of the. Town''Hall -for the'Plunket; Medal competition, and'to-Mrl Fisher for;the_ pre-' sentation to the society of JenningV "Anecdotal History of Parliament."
