MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

■_ The monthly J meeting of the Makara County Council was yesterday. Present::•'-•'Councillors F.~ T.' Moore (chairman), Bryant,- Haggerty, Eastwood, Hawkins, and Monk. Mr. AV. H. Field, jtf.P., forwarded a letter .from the Minister for Railways, stating that road metal could not bo supplied to the County Council from the Railway Department's quarry/ at' Paekakariki,- as all the metal available was .required; by the Department. In reference to a-suggestion made by Mr. Field in this connection, the council decided to write to him expressing the hope that he would be able to induce tho Hutt County Council to crush stone at another quarry at Paekakariki, in which event the Makara Council would be a purchaser of \ metal. ''■■'' In regard: to a difference of opinion as': to the boundary of a road leading into Ohariu, tho council decided to inform' Mr. Martin that it had investi-gated-the matter'at. the Lands and Survey Office; and found, that 1 -there was -a; chain-wide road- through his property,, and that:tho fence'erected by him. at the side of the road- was an encroachment on a county road. The council decided to accede to the request 'of the Hospital Board to continue administering charitable aid on the same lines at tho present, pending further arrangements. . The Counties Association wrote that the Prime Minister had been asked to supply copies of the proposed Local Government Bill for consideration at tho coming conference of the association; Councillor 'Moore was appointed "as- the council's delegate to the" conference. , The Counties Association also asked for information bearing upon a proposal to unite all county councils in one organisation for the purpose of insurance against claims under the Workers' Compensation Act. It was resolved to furnish the information.
