... COAL-MINING. AW AKDS. '.! \ ' , WEST COAST OASES. •; ; (By Tolegraph.-rP'ress Association.) !'■■'"■;: .'■''•'-" '■"■■■ Grcymputh, April 7. • '.The Conciliation Court, presided 'over by: Mr. Tv Hallcy, Commissioner, has been sittins for three days in' succession to adjust somo' points of difference between the Point Elizabeth Railway and Coal Company. '; and the . Grey Valley . Industrial Union ■ of. Workers, also the North Brunner Coal Company and the same union of workers. In both caGes the points at issue ivero discussed in the most amicable spirit, representatives in each case., being thoroughly conversant with ' the various subjects under review,.and these included the-,whole of , tho underground. arrangements such as hewing, trucking, wet places, shift wages, casual shiftmen, the wages of carpenters, blacksmiths, engineman, wheelmen, horse-drivers, and trucking',by miners.' In respect to the latter, the companies have agreed to do the great bulk; of the tracking. The little to 'bo done-by'the men is, of course, unavoidable. Trucking : conditions in each caEe are pretty much tho same as obtain at tho. State mine, though, rather more .-in-, favour of the miners.' Tho conditions are: Miners to truck their own coal not past tho permanent flatshect, if they truck from 25 to 50 yards, 2d. per ton extra; for each 25 yards or portion thereof above or.over 50 yards, 3d. per ton extra. In any place in tho mine whero tho trucking by. miners exceeds 25 yards,,the extra tonnago must be paid, or a roll off made for the-truckers, such roll off to bo as near as possible, but not more than 25 yards from the face. Miners to run the face jig up to 25 yards: over that distance to be paid the same extra rates as trucking. In" nil other respects tho' award is very much on tho,old lines.,ln one respect only the award in the case of tho North Brunner. seems to differ from that in tho case of .the Point Elizabeth Company. The clause referred to is ■ as follows:—The operation of this clause ; shall not apply for, a poriod of six months from date of signing this award, with tho exception of the- rates mentioned. for such shifts. The agreement is equally satisfactory to all' parties. .
