NEW STREET' NAMES.
THE SCHEME ADOPTED. The By-laws Committee, of the City Council .'.presented ■ last evening their re-, port on the scheme. to rename, a large number of the city streets, t as published in The Dominion' some days ago.. The committee have looked into' the names of all ;'streets 'in.rthe' city and, outlying districts, and, in revising them, they have, endeavoured to eliminate all duplication of names, and have, in a, number .of cases, proposed that streets, which. have borne different names.in different parts, shall henceforth be .known by' one name only. North Street .(Tofy, Street); to be called ,Tui.Street. ; ".'•■; :' Park Street '(Adelaide Road),-to' be called Nikau Street. , ;, '. ■• Waterloo Avenue, to be called 'Wellesley Avenue; ■■'■ . .' •'■'" Old Military Road, Northland, tho portion from-Northland Road to Creswick Road, to be renamed Kaihuia Street. Waitoa Road, Hataitai, portion north of; tram, to be renamed Hapua Street. ■■ George Crawford Street, Mana; Street, and Sydney Street, to be called AVhaui Street.. '
Mention was made.at last nights meeting •of several protests against the new ■names, and if was-stated-that the committee had considered them. Councillor Coheri wanted to know it propertj'-owners. in the streets, renamed would have to alter their title deeds. The Mayors' Not until they sell, and then it won't matter. The report was adopted.
