THE NAVY LEAGUE.

The monthly meeting of' the local executive of the Navy -League, held last night, was attended' by Colonel A. Hume' (in the chair),- Colonel G. F. C.' Campbell, Messrs. f\ B. Harcourt, E. J. Le Grove, D. M'Kellar,' and C. W. Palmer.- _ ; ,'■ The hon. secretary reported'that, during the- recent visit of .the squadron over 1100 juvenile" members of the league had been taken'aboard the flagship. -The ball to the Admiral and officers had resulted most satisfactorily, both financially and in every other,way; and the; entertainment. of "the bluejackets at Day's Bay had also been a great success/ .

It was reported that heavy consignments of books from .London for the juvenile members had recently arrived, and that the books were now being issued .to the various school subbranches. ■ . ■ ■ - .'

The 100 Navy League wall maps ordered by the Education-Department, at the instigation of the' Wellington branch, were reported to be to hand, and that the Department was in communication with the various Education Boards who had already intimated their requirements as to the number of maps required by each. '

.Correspondence from London was . submitted, also a large quantity of letters from ten New Zeaalnd branches and sub-branches,' as well as. numerous applications by boys and young men for enrolment in the Navy. Replies sent by the hon. secretary: were approved, and, in connection with the applications for enrolment, Commander Blunt, R.N., of H.M-; drill-ship Pioneer, wrote that he expected his ship would be in Wellington' Harbour at the end of May. .';. .. \ ,;..

The arrangements. as. to the form the annual meeting should -take was loft in the hands of the -hon; secretary. It is hoped that in, .addition to ,an official meeting, in the afternoon, a large public demonstration af. the Town Hall may be arranged on similar' lines to. those of. last year's very 'successful function, the singing .of a' massed chorus of juvenile members"' of the league having been a feature of the occasion. " * '.'

Accounts were passed for payment totalling £14 4s'.' 4d., including £129 18s. for expenses in- connection with the recent ball.

There were- several letters ' of, congratulation upon the '• great success of the ball.
