PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(Prom Our Special Correspondent.) •Palmerston North, April 7. Half, a dozen rinks of Palmerston bowlers journeyed to Feilding yesterday; and were badly beaten all round, failing to win a single game. A meeting bf the Old Boys' Fourths Football Club was held last night,- when it was decided to enter two teams for the competitions. S. Dane was reelected captain, P. Bobbie vicecaptain, and these with H. Lane wore appointed selectors. The Palmerston Brass Band rendered a programme of music in the rotunda in the Square last night, and-attracted a large number of people, notwithstanding that the; night was rather chilly. This'was the first appearance of tho band since "its reorganisation under the new conductor, Mr. Conway, and it acquitted itself excellently. A juvenile band of about' a dozen players is being trained, and it is expected in the course of a few months it will also make its appearance in public. ■ The district nurse reports that during the month of March she made one hundred .visits to patients. Two deaths have occurred. - ''-.'; '■'.', There we're about thirty officials present at the quarterly meeting of the Methodist circuit at Ashlrarst. The Rev..6. W; Spence, chairman of the district, occupied the chair. Returns in connection with tho various branches of the work were read and discussed. The financial statement submitted by. the circuit stewards, Messrs. G. H. Bennett, and EL E..:Harvey, showed a small deficit owing ;to extraordinary expenditure. Captain Haydon, official representative at the conference at Dunedin, submitted a report on tho work done. It was decided to. substantially increase the stipend of the second minister. \ • The harvest.festival being held, by the local corps of, the Salvation Army continues to draw very large attendances. Last night Captain "Avenafl, of Feilding, presided, and there was - a .special programme, which was greatly appreciated. A cricket match is to bo played here on Saturday afternoon between a combined team representing tho banks and a team representing the firms of Messrs. Abraham and Williams and Messrs. Barraud and Abraham. : A meeting has been convened to form a boxing club and provide a gymnasium. Largo promises of support have already been received, and the movement looks like proving successful. .:
