A FRACTURED SPINE.
(By Telegraph-Press Association.) ; Auckland, April 5. /John' Saunders, wharf labourer, was struck oh the back of the neck by a bag of sugar,'.which slipped from a ship's slings, and had his spine fractured, causing paralysis. He' was . removed'to the hospital, and his condition is. serious. •' V■ ■ ' SHOT WITH'A PEA RIELE. Dunedln, April 5. '■"•The police have been advised that a man' named James Stewart, residing with his mother at Sawyers Bay, committed suicide this afternoon by shooting himself with a pea rifle." : BICYCLE BRAKE FAILED. William John Anderson, who lives in Constable Street, met with a.nasty accident on Monday. "While he was cycling down John Street the brake of bis machine. ceased to act, and he lost control of .the bicycle. He collided,with a cart,, arid was thrown under the horse's feet. As a result, he had several ribs broken, and also sustained internal injuries. After being attended by Dr. Perkins, he was removed to his home. " v ■ .
