OBITUARY.

TEE HON. F. TEASE. (By Telosraph.-PieEa Association.!, Nelson, April 5. The Hon. F. Trask, M.L.C., dropped dead outside' his own residence at one o'clock toKiay. He had been about town just .previously, apparently in his usnal health, talking to' friends, and ho worked in his butchers shop this morning in tho best of spirits/:-

The Hon. Francis Trask was called' to the Legislative Council on March 18, 1903. He was born at Merriott.'in Somersetshire, England, inlS4o, and in 1860 he came out in the barque Minorca to I/yttelton,' whence ho went on to the Otago. goldfields. After a stay of a few months; at Wetherstone's 'Gully, Mr. Trask: went, to Nelson, where he residod ever .since.. In 1878 he was elected to a seat in the Borough Council, and held of-fice-as a councillor:till 1890, when he was first elected' Mayor—an office which he held for ten successive years. , Among the many works which were undertaken during' Mr. Trask's term of office was the Rocks Road, a new main road from the town to the country,, by way of the. sea coast. .This lvork was' started, mainly through his 'exertions. It is perfectly level for its whole distance, and forms the highway into -Nelson from the fertile Waimea Valley, and thence to the AVest Coast. ;. "Gunners-bury House," Mr. Trask's, residence' 'in .- Collingwood Street, ' is usually referred to as being one- of the finest houses in Nelson. Mr. Trask leaves a widow and three sons—Mr. Ernest Trask,. Captain S. V. Trask (staff officer, to Colonel Robin), and 'Mr.'-'Arthur Trask." The'deceased was reappointed to-the Legislative Council a few days.ago. ■»
