Referniig to the action of the employee members of the Hartlepool shipbuilding co-partnership (who voted, by 598 votes to "402, against a continuance of the scheme, after a financially successful" twelve months' trial), Mr. w -. C. Steadnian, ex-Labour M.P., contends that co-partnership weakens the power of bargaining. The workingmen's strength lies in unity, which partnership schemes aim to destroy. . Sir Christopher Furniss, head of the firm and author of the scheme, in response, to an 'appeal, is considering the possibility of continuing the co-part-nership for another, year. He "thinks tile deduction from the men's wages towards the cost of their shares might be optional in poriods of irregular work.
