The efforts made this morning to raise the sunken steamer Koi .were fruitless, -> owing to insufficiency of power available. This evening the steamers Nikau- and Waverley, of the Anchor fleet, are standing by, with a staff of men from the Anchor Foundry, and hopes arb entertained that the Koi will be raised sufficiently to enable her to be towed to shal low water. ENDURANCE PIANO PLAYING. Nelson, March 31. Edward Travis, the champion endurance piano player, commenced this morning, an attempt to exceed his own record of 611' hours' continuous playmg. He exexpects to conclude on Saturday night. DEER SHOOTING. Christchurch, March 31. The.shooting season in connection with the deer comprised in the Eakaia herd opens to-morrow, and already a number of deerstalkers have pioceeded to th« rendezvous. ALLEGED ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. • '..!'.'. Hastings, March 31. Andrew Thow, aged 70, is alleged to have attempted to commit suicide last night by cutting his throat. He had beer sufferng from rhenmatsm, and_ was -despondent. He was removed in a precarious condition to Napier Hospital.
