THREE ARTISTIC SISTERS.
Two daughters and a daughter-in-law of the famous Dr.Martineau hare contributed 273 pictures to a three-woman show which opened in February at the New Dudley Gallery, London. Such a family.'achievement constitutes a record. One Hundred and fifty pictures como from'the facile brush of the late Miss Edith Mattineau; seventy-five are contributed by her sister, Miss Gertrude Martinean; and -the rest are exhibited by Mrs, Basil Martineau, w'ho . married the great , divine's 'son. The exhibition contains several, portraits of Dr. Martineau executed in various me-
drums. ' The 'ate Miss Marfcinean was an artist of exceptional .power. She paid, more attention to careful dxawing than tie , woman painter usually affeofcs. She laboured her trees with painstaking 'zeal, and succeeded in obtaining flie character that Ruskin so often insisted on. Her colour sense was bright and optimistic. ( j |
