MINIATURE RIFLE RANGE.

AT: WOBSEE BAY. , ' The opening of. a. miniature rifle range at the Worser Bay School took place-on Saturday afternoon. Among- those 'present at the ceremony. were Mr. E. Lee, Chairman of 'the .Wellington Education Board, Mr. G. L.; Stewart, secretary,-the Mayor 1 and Mayoress of Miramar, Mr. C. J. Crawford, and Mrs. Crawford, .Major M'Donald,' in charge of, the' Dominion Cadets, and' a'large number of residents of the district, as well'sis the Miramar borongh councillors and the School Committee. Mr.R. Lee, in addressing' the assemblage, said that he. had' been interested in ■ the cadet' movement; for some '35 years. At that time the cadets in the Wellington district - oonsisted of the Te Aro School Cadets, under the- late; Mr.. R. Holmes,. and • the; corps ,at Greytowa and Carterton. He was.a believer in developing the body as well as the mind, and he congratulated the , Worser Bay School-Committee on providing for the children "both gymnastio apparatus and a rifle ran'ge. , . ' Major M'Donald also spoke, and stated that about 13,000 school cadets were under canvas' during Lord Kitchener's' visit to New Zealand, and that not. an accident' had occurred. ■ . :

The Mayor of Miramar .said that, as' one of the oldest "inhabitants of the district, he' had carefully watched the progress of the school. He added that he felt 'sure tSat some day:the Worser. Baj people , would have a rifle champion from among the lads attending'the school., ' Mr. R. Hall, Chairman of' the School Committee, •in proposing -, a -.vote . .of' thanks to the speakers,' also' made, reference, to the work of Mr. S. Robinson,, one of the committee, /who had been very energetic'in . connection with the work of providing the . range.' . -; ' After the opening ceremony. - afternoon tea. was. dispensed by a committee of ladies, consisting. of Mesdames Hawson, Hall, 'Rountree, Duff, ' Grigg, , Kircher,. Robinson, .Power, .and Miss M'Kehzie, for whom cheers .were given. A'match vis' fired between' three ladies and. the. same number of gentleirien, the former winning. ;;
