NOTES FROM VVANGANUI.
: ; COUETHOUSE ACCOMMODATION. (By' Teleerapli.—SDCcial CorresDondcnt.l . Wanganui, March 15.' A child had a very narrow escape from a serious, if not fatal, accident .this afternoon through running' in front of a tram while watching the bands marching. However, the promptitude of the motormail in applying the brakes saved the little one. i The urgent need of improved and increased accommodation at th? Supreme Court was again mentioned to-day when the grand jury presented- a resolution to the presiding judge pointing' out that, when Supremo Court sittings were in progress, members of the Bar were prevented from using the library by the grand jury's occupation' of it, and the magistrate was perforce compelled to give up his room to the visiting judge. Mr. Marshall, Crown Prosecutor, sup-.' ported the representation, and referred to the total lack of accommodation for, the' 40 or 50 witnesses present at the' sittings. His Honour expressed his sympathy with the local peoplo in tho matter, and promised to forward the resolution to the Minister for 'Justice, and inform him that the facts wero precisely as set forth in the, resolution. The highest spring tide experienced for many years was recorded yesterday when there was over seventeen feet of water on the bar. Three bandsmen were excused from attendance as jurors at the Supromo Court this morning. A rather sensational bolt occurred this morning when a horse attached- to a butcher's cart dashed down the -street and into a lamp-post in Harrison Street which was smashed. The horse got clear, of the harness and went on,, jumping an adjoining bqxthorn fonco, but was ultimately nulled, ud. - i ,
