LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
CITY COUNCIL METHODS. Sir, —If anything could have justified tho election of Dr. Newman as Mayor of the city it was his action last night in declaring Councillor Cormichael's motion carried, despite the cunning tactics of certain councillors to defeat the motion by clearing out, and so making the meeting informal. It is about time that tho general public got some insight into' what is going on behind the scenes. Last night's incident should impress upon the public the necessity for an honest Mayor. The public often wonders why certain members of the council stick to it as they do. Perhaps they are just about to discover the reason. Anyhow, I am glad the Mayor showed his teeth. Since this question of improper transactions was raised by Mr. Fisher. M.P., councillors in various parts of the Dominion have been compelled to resign because of their improprieties. Why doesn't Mr. Fisher corpe out as.' Mayor? We want a "straight" man, whatever other qualities he may possess.—l am, etc., 'J • HONOUR. Wellington, March 11, 1910.
