OVERWEIGHT GRAIN SACKS.

Oamaru, March 11. borne time ago the Railway Department Sssued regulations imposing a penalty of four i times the freight on all sacks of cereals, weighing oyer 2(l8lb. The regulation made 110 exemption with respect to listance, and penalties of exorbitant iharacter were piled up over long distances. The Minister then withdrew the regulation, and substituted one of os. a ;ruck. At. a .meeting of . fanners hero on oaturday, it was .pointed out that all trucks had not the same carrying capacity, some faking four times as much as. others, and-the regulation was therefore equally unfair, in incidence, and it was, resolved that the Minister bo asked to substitute ss. pel- ton, which 'would work out at .£3. per truck for larger trucks. ■
