PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
GEAR ISLAND AGAIN. ■ The , Peione Borough Council met last (right. Present:—Tho Mayor (Mr. J. W. U'Ewan), Councillors Short, Harding, ■Bouthgate, Piper, Young, List, Jones, and JTrueman.- ■ . The. Under-Secretary': for ; Internal Mairs.. notified that a mistake had been Biade in including, a portioii of Gear Island in . the borough of Petone, and Steps had now been taken - to rectify ; the jßrror* - Tha Mayor said that the part of the Mrad ./which was ceded to Petone had uinoe been pledged, for loins and rates !had been :00llected from it: The UnderSecretary had made a mistake'and wished (to rectify it, but the difficulties mentioned had. to be considered. Under the reof Mr. W. • S.' Short,' the' /commissioner; ; Potone - would gain : the Jarger portion, of ( the island. The letter was received. The secretary of the . Petone; Technical School wrote that the council was now entitled to four representatives on the Board of. Managers, the council' having contributed £60 during 1809,'. owing to two gears' : contributions overlapping. 1 No .action was taken. _The secretary of the trustees of the tTaita - Cemetery wrote' giving, reasons against the proposed clause providing for the withdrawal of Petone and Lower Hutt from tho position'of contributing bodies. No party should withdraw without paying the, trustees its full ehare of the permaneiit,liability. The .council resolved to propose a new•clause, providing for/a proper adjustment of liabilities upon the . withdrawal of ; either 'of the contributing bodies. .Tho secretary, of the committee.-which' ,as obtaining an ambulance van for the public use wrote asking the council, to provide housing for, the van, and assume ■the care of it. Consideration;.was postjtoned. -: ..! Other business of the - council is separately reported. -
