DISASTER IN WALES. EIGHT LIVES LOST. DROWNED IN A ROARING TORRENT By TeleEraph—Preee Association— Oopyrlffht (Rec. March 13, 5 p.m.) London, March 12. ■ A most alarming disaster, resulting in serious loss of lifo and heavy damage to property, has been caused by the bursting of a dam in the Rhondda Valley in Glamorganshire, Wales. Houses were flooded in Clydach Vale and several of them collapsed. A mother and her infant, who were .in bed at the time, , were Mlled, and six others, most of . them children, were drowned in the roaring torrent. Many narrow escapes have also been reported, in many cases being washed out of. their houses. Nine'hundred children who were in a echoolhousa were saved through the prompt action of the teachers and the fact that the play-ground wall withstood the flood. The children were passed through the windows to colliers who had to wade in four feet of water. The flood swept huge boulders on to the railway line and caused a block in the traffic.
