SAILING EVENTS.
. P.N..Y.C. RACES. The nice full sail southerly breeze prevailing on Saturday brought out all tie starters for tho Port Nicholson Yacht Club's races. Four races for the yachts wero got off,'following being the Tesults:— Second Class A Yachts.—lolautho (lOmin.), 1; Janet (2min.), 2; AVlnto Heather ■ (scratch), 3. These were the only starters, Janet returning home first, at shr. 49mm'. lolanthe camo in next.at shr. sGmin. 50sec., just winning the raco by Bsec. Second Class B . Yachts.—Lizzie (scratch), 1; Taipare 3miu.), 2; Nanoya (3mm.)', 3. There were four starters in this race. ■ Lizzie finished at shr. 57min. 30sec. Taipare at 6hr.- 19min., and Nanoya at 6hr. 30min. SOsec. • Third Class Yachts.—Eawene (scratch), 1; May (16min.), 2. These were the only starters. Raweno finished at Ghr. 56min. May finished at 7hr. 12min. 45sec. I'ourtli Class Yachts—Nikau (18niin.), 1; AVafehou' (scratch), 2; Nina ,(2min.), 3. There were four.starters for this race, but only three finished. Nikau was first haul, at 51ir. 18min. 55sec, with AVarehou 51ir. 19niin. 55scc. Tuna arrived at ohr. 25min. LADIES RACE. . Oii Saturday afternoon the To Aro Sailing Club hold a ladies' race. Tho light breeze from the south enabled the little boats .to carry full sail, and the ladies took them round the course in fiuo style,, this ■ being the first ladies' race held by the To Aro Sailing Club. The' following were the handicaps:—Lotus, Giinin. ; Ishmael, . smin.; Valctn, Bmin.; Rival, GJmin.; Redwing, i|min.; and Nan, scratch. The Nan did not start. The race resulted in: a": win for Lotus (3hr. Mmin. 30sec), 'with Rival (3hr.. 55min.) second, and Ishmael (3hr. 57miu..'15sec) third. Tho other boats, finished as follows:—A r aleta (4hr. .lmin. 30soc), Redwing (4hr. 2min.). . > ' LAUNCHES. A race for launches was also held on Saturday, the course being onco round the Motor Boats Club course. The following were tho starting times:—Puriri, 3hr. 15min.; Veronica, 3hr, 18min.; Scotia, 3hr. 19min.; AVaione, Shr. 39min. The race was won by tho scratch launch, AVaione, with Purirj second, Scotia third, and Veronica fourth. ' ■ : HERETAUNGA. BOATING CLUB. . Tho Heretaunga Boating Club got offanother race for Mr. .Speed's trophy on Saturday. The weather again gave the handicappers a difficult task to bring tho boats home in a close finish, the. handicapping generally being in favour of. the back-markers—tho plpdders, .tth.<Cgener-. ally are posted as. "also started.'' The wind at the start was a light southerly,' changing later to easterly, and " back again. The boats got well away together, and, on the beat out to the island, got considerably separated. Runa again got away, and led through the island gap by some Guiin., followed by tho AVniwotu and Bronzowing... Then came. Gil Bias, Clara, and Huia, a good half-mile behind, then Madge, Moana, and Mahau .passed through a long, distance.,behind, having got into a light'variablo wind. Runa was the.first across the line, orith a lead of seven minutes, but took third place 'on handicap allowance. Tho placed boats woro as follow:—Moana' (17mm.), lhr. 17min. 12see., 1; Bronzewjng (Bmin.j, lhr. 13min. isec, 2; Runa (scratch), lhr. Gmin. 58sec, 3. Also started: AVaiwetu (IJmin.), 4hr. llmiu. 54sec.; Huia .Bmin.), 4hr. 17min. 20sec; -Gil Bias (3Jmin.), •lhr. 14min. 25sec; Madge (17min.), 4hr. 29min. 23sec.; Clara (13min.), .4hi'.'27min. 52sec; Mahau (15min.), 4hr. 32min.' 27seo.
